A petition urging Amazon's Prime Video service to reconsider its decision to axe My Lady Jane has now gained over 100,000 supporters.

Launched on the streaming platform at the end of June, the historical comedy drama imagined what would have happened if Lady Jane Grey had not lost the throne after just nine days. Emily Bader played the lead role, with Edward Bluemel as love interest Guildford Dudley.

The cast list also featured Anna Chancellor, Rob Brydon, Kate O'Flynn, Dominic Cooper, Henry Ashton and Jordan Peters.

Although the series popular with viewers, news followed in August that it would not be getting a second series. One report noted: "Creatively, My Lady Jane has done well. Despite taking a very big swing with a premise that crosses genres that don't normally co-exist - historical romance, fantasy, adventure, comedy and farce - it has been among the best reviewed new series this year. But it didn't find a broad enough audience, never landing on Nielsen's Top 10 weekly streaming rankings for originals."

Fans of the show created a petition on Change.org calling for a second series. A linked GoFundMe page setup to help the campaign has raised over $5,000 to help with the publicity.

The petition page notes: "My Lady Jane, the fascinating adaptation on Amazon Prime has garnered widespread acclaim and quickly built a passionate fan base. After a successful first season, viewers are undoubtedly craving a follow-up."

It adds: "Renewing My Lady Jane would not just please fans, it would also generate a significant amount of traffic and viewership benefits for the streaming platform. We are calling upon Amazon Prime to listen to the voices of fans around the globe and confirm the renewal of My Lady Jane' for a second season."
