Recovered Sykes and Basil Brush episodes to be screened
Two classic television comedy programmes are to be screened to the public on 1st June.
Film prints of the missing episodes of Sykes And A... and The Basil Brush Show were discovered last year by organisers of Film is Fabulous!, a grass-roots initiative to highlight the importance of privately held film collections across Britain.
Both will now be seen at The Courtyard in Hereford on 1st June, in a special screening event also set to include a drama programme and a musical show fronted by Sir Tom Jones.
Sykes And A Marriage - Series 3, Episode 5 of Sykes And A... - stars comedy legends Eric Sykes, Hattie Jacques, and noted comic character actor Richard Wattis. It was broadcast on Wednesday 1st February 1961 and has not been seen since.
The Basil Brush Show episode, meanwhile, is Series 4, Episode 2, first aired on 25th September 1970.
Tickets are on sale now from the venue.
Film is Fabulous! curator and principal organiser John Franklin explained of the discoveries last year: "We really have been so lucky to have found these original films. We are fairly sure they were likely to have been thrown out by the BBC in a clear-out and been saved from the skip before ending up in these private collections.
"We found them in the collections of people who have sadly passed away and recovered them before they were lost again in house clearances."
Tom Jones! episode Work guest stars Maxine Brown and was made in 1967, whilst MOGUL episode Is That Tiger Man? comes from April 1966. The mini festival is also set to include a discussion with special guests about the preservation of vulnerable film treasures.
