Ghosts Series 5 starts on Friday 6th October
The final series of Ghosts will premiere on BBC One on Friday 6th October at 8:30pm.
The news was announced during a preview screening at the BFI last night.
It was announced in March that the forthcoming fifth series will be the end for the show.
The BBC said: "The team behind the smash-hit show have decided that after five series it's time to wave goodbye to the inhabitants of Button House and focus on new projects."
The Ghosts team - Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond - announced at the time: "After five incredible years haunting the halls of Button House, we have decided that the time is right to let our beloved sitcom Ghosts rest in peace. We have just wrapped filming on our fifth and final series and we can't wait to share it with you all later this year.
"We could never have imagined the reception the show has enjoyed, or the fun we have had making it, and we would like to thank our amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC One and Monumental Television for their tireless support.
"But most of all we'd like to thank everyone who watches. Mathew, Martha, Simon, Jim, Laurence and Ben x"
Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy at the BBC, commented: "We are officially in mourning for the end of this BBC Comedy Classic. We can't thank the Ghosts team enough for five incredible series (not to mention some perfect Christmas specials) and we can't wait for BBC viewers to see the final series. We look forward to working with the team on new projects."
Series 5 will see Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) begin exploring other means of making ends meet and contemplate a new chapter that could have a huge effect on the Ghosts' lives.
The synopsis for Episode 1 is: "Mike approaches Alison to discuss their finances following the loss of their B&B business. However, Alison is more preoccupied with plotting revenge on the Ghosts for April Fool's Day and recruits a playful Humphrey to execute her plans.
"But who will prove the hardest to fool? Meanwhile, Mike is shocked to find someone from their insurance company on his doorstep - an unannounced visit to check the details of the gatehouse fire. Can Mike convince her that lightning really can strike thrice?"
To tie in with the final series, the stars have written a companion book. The Button House Archives will be published on 26th October.
Ghosts: The Button House Archives
The comic companion to the BBC sitcom Ghosts, perfect for all the family.
Everybody leaves a trace. The ghosts of Button House may have been dead a long time - some of them a very long time - but they have all left their mark on the world (even if, in Robin's case, that mark is just a handprint on the wall of a cave).
Gathered together in this volume is a treasure trove of unearthed cuttings, original records and rare artefacts that explore the unseen lives of those who died at Button House: from Thomas's love letters to Pat's 'Summer Camp Rap', and from Julian's campaign promises to Lady Button's Rules of Etiquette. There are even documents dictated to the one person who can see and hear the ghosts: Alison Cooper.
Written by the show's creators - Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond - this eclectic archive is a unique chance to discover more about the beloved ghosts of Button House. Thank be to Moonah!
A book for all the family, it is as warm-spirited and deliriously daft as the series itself.
