Cursed gay Londoner comedy in works from Everyone Else Burns company
Everyone Else Burns production company Jax Media UK is developing a comedy about a cursed gay Londoner for US channel Showtime, from writer-director Clem Garritty (pictured).
Jonah Kills follows a gay man living in London, trying to find love through sex, only to discover that every person he has ever slept with has died in a freak accident.
US entertainment website Deadline reports that no script work is currently being done on the comedy, but that the intention is to cast and shoot a pilot after the US writers strikes, with Anglo-Irish helmer Iain B MacDonald, whose credits include Bluestone 42, the US adaptation of Shameless and Poker Face, attached to direct.
Garritty, who co-wrote and directed John Henry Falle's The Story Beast, best newcomer nominated for the 2015 Edinburgh Comedy Award, is the artistic director of comedy company Kill the Beast and directed all three of the company's shows, The Boy Who Kicked Pigs, He Had Hairy Hands and Don't Wake the Damp, all of which have toured the UK and transferred to the Soho Theatre.
Showtime is owned by Paramount Media Networks and is currently being closely integrated with Paramount+, suggesting that the channel will be Jonah Kills' eventual home if it's picked up to series and airs in the UK.
Alongside Everyone Else Burns, Jax Media also made the hit US series Broad City, Search Party, Russian Doll and A Black Lady Sketch Show.
