Taskmaster to sponsor Chesham United football club
TV show Taskmaster looks set to be the main shirt sponsor for Chesham United football club next season.
The semi-professional Buckinghamshire based team, which are nicknamed "the Generals", play in the Southern League Premier Division South. They finished 5th of 22 in the season just finished.
Taskmaster creator Alex Horne is currently on the board at the team, and has been starting to link the club to the world of comedy. On 13th May he organised a charity football match at the club's home ground, which featured - amongst others - Mark Watson, Ed Gamble, Aisling Bea, Doc Brown, Alex Brooker and Hugh Dennis.
The shirt sponsorship news was revealed via Rhys James and Lloyd Griffith's Fit & Proper podcast, on which Horne was a guest.
The podcast's format sees guests imagine taking over a football club and then rebuilding it however they like. When asked by the hosts who he'd like to have as his ideal shirt sponsors, Little Alex Horne gave an exclusive on the real life situation at Chesham United: "There is interesting news, I think it's going to be Taskmaster from next season, we've struck a deal. It's not signed up, but it just says Taskmaster with a little red stamp underneath."
Talking about the motivation for the sponsorship, he added: "It's sort of an Ed Sheeran route of just having an arts project, I mean it's great. It's one of the most exciting things that's ever happened to me. We've got a Taskmaster advertising hoarding at the ground already which is just a picture of me, so it's just more and more of them."
