Steve Coogan says that he and Rob Brydon "should" make another series of The Trip.

Appearing on his co-star's Brydon & ... podcast, the Alan Partridge star revealed that he was meeting their director Michael Winterbottom on the day of the recording and gave his strongest declaration yet that they should make a fifth series of their gastronomic mockumentary.

Coogan also revealed that there will be a fourth series of From The Oasthouse: An Alan Partridge Podcast in 2024, after the third series of 11 episodes launches this autumn. "I feel like they are Partridge at his best" he said.

The Trip, in which the pair played versions of themselves and indulge their love of celebrity impressions ran for two series on BBC Two between 2010 and 2014, then subsequently two more on Sky Atlantic and Sky One, most recently The Trip To Greece in 2020.

"The last one, I thought, 'well, we know how to do this now'" said Coogan. "Although we were repeating ourselves, I did enjoy it."

Brydon agreed: "I felt at the end of the last one, we're just doing the same thing over and over but from where I was standing, it was as favourably received as the others."

Coogan, who has previously suggested they should travel to the lands of their forefathers, Wales or Ireland, continued: "I think certainly there will be more stuff to say because middle age is different to just getting old ... I think we should do another one at a time and place to be determined."

Brydon added: "I always say to people, if Steve is still alive ... and they laugh."

The pair also reiterated that they are currently making a sitcom pilot starring Brydon, as first reported by BCG last year.

Elsewhere in the Brydon & ... chat Coogan revealed that he took inspiration from Brydon's Marion & Geoff when he came to make Alan Partridge's Mid-Morning Matters and joked that his forthcoming BBC drama about Jimmy Savile, The Reckoning "won't be part of the Christmas schedule".

He and Brydon also performed some of Frankie Boyle's material, though in the voice of Billy Connolly. And they reflected upon Coogan's passion for diving, after Brydon brought up the fact that his co-star sends him photos of him doing it from all over the world.
