Romesh Ranganathan pilots BBC chat show
Romesh Ranganathan is piloting a BBC chat show featuring his mum Shanthi.
With the working title The Romesh Ranganathan Show, some details of the pilot first emerged in November, ahead of recording last month. But British Comedy Guide can now confirm that the comic is developing it with the BBC.
Shanthi has appeared on all five series of The Ranganation, Ranganathan's BBC Two state-of-the nation survey comedy and joins her son to "keep him in check" on the chat show, which also features games and music. The comic previously interviewed other stand-ups on the 2017 BBC Three series Romesh: Talking To Comedians.
Like The Ranganation, The Romesh Ranganathan Show is made by the comedian's own production company, Ranga Bee.
The chat show pilot comes after Ranganathan confirmed that he and Rob Beckett will be shooting the rest of the fifth series of Rob And Romesh Vs for Sky Max this year, alongside two more episodes of his Misinvestigations series for BBC Two, plus "hopefully more sitcom", he told Sunday Brunch on Channel 4 last month, ahead of preparing for his 2024 stand-up tour.
However, Ranganathan didn't elaborate on whether that meant a second series of his sitcom Avoidance on BBC One or a second series of Romantic Getaway on Sky Comedy.
A BBC spokesperson declined to comment on The Romesh Ranganathan Show.
