Inside No. 9 to 'pause' after Series 9
Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith are going to 'pause' on making Inside No. 9 after they finish filming Series 9 next year.
Pemberton told The Sun: "We feel it is a good time to pause Inside No. 9 after we finish filming Series 9 next year."
He added: "We're not saying it's over for good. After all, The League Of Gentlemen came back, but we won't be looking to make any more episodes for the time being."
The BBC commissioned the eighth and ninth series of the comedy anthology show in June. Series 8 has now been filmed, for broadcast in 2023, with Series 9 going into production next year.
The hit show returns to screens next week with a festive ghost story. The Bones Of St. Nicholas, which guest stars Simon Callow and Shobna Gulati will be broadcast on BBC Two on 22nd December at 9pm. It follows Dr Jasper Parkway, who has booked an overnight stay in a reputedly haunted church, however, much to his dismay, he is soon joined by unwanted guests.
At various times over the last few years, Shearsmith and Pemberton have mooted the idea of an Inside No. 9 stage show. At the launch of Series 7, they said: "It is definitely on the cards. We have flirted with the idea of doing a play and now we are moving into the heavy petting stage."
Pemberton added: "I think a stage play is good because the episodes are in many ways little theatre pieces. They started off life in our minds as plays and there is no reason why we couldn't transfer them."
