Alfie

Alfie is a loser-in-love, and the son of Julie.

He was a man with his life and future in Margate all planned out ahead of him, but then his fiancée Carly left him at the altar.

Judy

Wham!-loving Judy Taylor-Chatterjee runs the Edge Of Heaven guesthouse at the centre of the show.

Judy has her work cut out as she tries to run the family household, keep her business going to high-kitsch standards, and be a shoulder to cry on when her son is jilted at the altar.

Tandeep

Tandeep is Judy's husband and acts as the cook at the guest house. He is an enthusiast of the traditional black pudding breakfast, and committed to providing the best his limited kitchen can offer.

Nanny Mo

Nanny Mo is the family's smart-as-a-tack grandmother. She is very forthright and doesn't care if she upsets anyone with her rude comments.

Bald Gary

Gary is Judy's brother. Their mother, Mo, lives with him and partner Camp Gary in their pristine modern flat.

Camp Gary

As Welsh as they come, Camp Gary is Bald Gary's long-term partner. The definition of effeminacy, he seems to be one of the nicest men in the town.

He also seems to get on better with Judy and Bald Gary's mum, Mo, than either of her children do!

Michelle

Michelle is a sweet girl who's always had a soft spot for Alfie. Now that best friend Carly isn't marrying him, does this leave her an opportunity?

Michelle and Carly share the lease of the salon together.

Carly

Carly was all set to marry Alfie... but on their wedding day, in fact right at the altar, she quite literally ran off.

Desperate to travel the world and not get too tied down, Carly believes she is doing the right thing when she tells Alfie that she no longer wants to get married to him.

Could she have lost him to her best friend and business partner...?

Ann-Marie

Ann-Marie is Judy's daughter. She was recently serving in the army, but is now living back at the guest house and adjusting to being a civilian again.
