Vivian Bancroft, esteemed thespian (in his eyes at least) is the patriarchal figure in his own little world. Married, for the fifth time, to Natasha (20 years his junior), he is insufferably egocentric, opinionated and frightfully sensitive.
He believes himself to be a socialist, while espousing values that would make Mrs. Thatcher blanch. Kate is one of his daughters and Marvin is her boyfriend. Marvin's parents Ron and Stella also show their faces, and to accept him into the family fold is one of the themes of the series.
