While Captain Mainwaring is in hospital, the Vicar and the Verger decide to join the Home Guard. Mainwaring is not pleased about it, but there is nothing he can do, so he sends them out to patrol with Jones's men.

This is the first episode not to feature James Beck as Private Walker, although he is credited.
