Mainwaring is shocked to learn that he is not a captain but a lieutenant. Things get even worse when he learns later on that he has no rank at all, and ends up as a private.

This episode was produced in colour, but only a black and white copy exists in the BBC archives. In 2008, a pioneering technique was utilised to recreate a colour version of the episode.
