Since 1985, Comic Relief - the charity run by people who work in comedy - has raised money for projects in both the UK and abroad. The aim is: "To drive positive change through the power of entertainment."
The organisation has raised over 1 billion pounds since it launched. Since 1988, Comic Relief's activities have primarily been focused around Red Nose Day, an event that occurs every other year. On Red Nose Day itself, BBC One broadcasts a night of studio entertainment, comedy sketches (including short specials from established comedy programmes), and charity appeal videos in a bid to get people to donate.
