Further details
Colin waits outside Waterstones to see his story in the Langley Book of Horror and whoops for joy when he finds it in there. At the book launch Edison, Langley's business partner tells Colin how impressed he is with his story and puts him in touch with a film director.
At work Colin is dancing for joy on his desk when Travers enters pays no attention to Colin's antics and tells him he's wanted at a meeting. During the meeting Colin is completely in a dream world thinking about his new found fame and when asked for his opinion just says 'Thank you thank you'.
At home Colin has a crisis of confidence and is afraid this will be a one off
He goes with Jen to a party held by Jen's boss where he tries to impress by telling whoever he meets about his new story's success but ends up talking to a businessman who is more interested in his job at British Rail.
Colin and Jen go out to dinner. He tells Jen about Alan Hunter the film director Edison has put him in touch with. Jen behaves uncharacteristically slushy to this news going through Colin's disastrous choice of jobs but ends by saying how things are looking up now. She reflects on her own dead end job.
At the meeting with Alan Hunter Colin is bitingly nervous. Hunter asks him to get him various items but Colin can't comprehend anything and is totally confused. He fails to hide his lack of experience. This does not worry Hunter however and he asks Colin for a treatment.
Colin enters the flat triumphantly and asks Jen what a treatment is. Jen is not herself and is very tearful. She admits to Colin that she's been made redundant and that she knew at the party. Colin scolds her for keeping it to herself and comforts her.
Colin types out Jen's CV and also takes her to a job interview which she doesn't get. Colin's attempt to comfort her fails.
At work everybody is preparing for the Best Railway Station awards however Colin realises he hasn't sent his treatment to Hunter and phones his office. Hunter it turns out has gone to New York. His secretary says she will pass on Colin's phone number and will also ask him to ring him. Colin decides not to go to the ceremony and go home. We are left with an empty office. The phone rings and Colin runs back and kicks the door in to get to it. It's Graham telling him that Hemel Hempstead won.
