BCG's Jack Kelly reports back from the Car Share screening. Note: This article doesn't give away any plot details, but does give a hint as to whether fans were happy with the ending or not.

On Saturday 7th April, a preview screening of the final two episodes of Peter Kay's Car Share took place at Blackpool Winter Gardens. The very special screening was held in order to raise funds for The Lily Foundation, a charity which treats children with mitochondrial disease.

With my finger firmly on the refresh button the moment that tickets went on sale, I was extremely fortunate enough to bag a seat just before the event sold out seconds later.

You may have heard in the press by now that the huge news of the night was that Peter Kay made a surprise appearance - instantly disproving all those silly death rumours that had been doing the rounds. Bouncing onto the stage in good spirits, he was greeted by a huge roar of shock and applause from the crowd. It was an electrifying atmosphere to be a part of, as the audience were so pleased to see him.

A quip about Jim'll Fix It with a lady on the front row, a sincere thank you for supporting Car Share over the years, and for supporting The Lily Foundation, and Peter was soon gone - leading us on to the main event of the night.

The Unscripted special was up first. Kay and co-star Sian Gibson wanted to see what would happen if they drove around with no script, and this episode is the mighty result.

I had a feeling in the back of my mind that it was going to be more like an outtakes reel, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that what followed was a hilarious half an hour that really wasn't all that different to a regular episode of the show.

Peter and Sian have been friends for years and Unscripted really let that fact shine through. They kept in character, found natural humour throughout, and added a minor plot. As with every other episode, it was also full of wonderful sight gags as they drove through the streets of Bolton, Salford and Manchester. There's a really funny scene about club sandwiches in there too. The crowd loved this episode and I think the viewers at home will adore it too.

After a recap of episodes 3 and 4 of Series 2, it was soon time for the main attraction - the much anticipated finale. This was it, the big one...

For me, it was everything that I wanted it to be and more. It's sweet and warm but doesn't delve too far into the realms of becoming a fairytale. In fact, the middle section of the episode is very much a classic Car Share story, like nothing has happened. It's just two good friends driving around, having a laugh and listening to some great tunes. On the subject of good music, this episode features an original song recorded by Peter himself, which I am fully expecting him to release as a single. It's very much an ear worm and a song that'll instantly be added to Forever FM playlists up and down the country.

I don't want to give away specific details about how it ends, but it's safe to say that the audience left feeling very satisfied. It's a wonderful ending to a show that's been one hell of a ride!
