How the car-cam became comedy's favourite vehicle

From James Corden and Peter Kay to Jerry Seinfeld, comedians are using the cheap and simple device to make lucrative TV.

Edinburgh TV Festival Awards nominations announced

Nominees for the 2018 Edinburgh TV Awards have been announced. The End Of The F***ing World, Daniel Lawrence Taylor and This Country's Daisy and Charlie Cooper are amongst those shortlisted.

British Comedy Guide, 20th June 2018

Peter Kay's Car Share ended with just - just - enough grit to redeem it from wholesale mawkishness. Sight gags - a billboard for C4's forthcoming My Big Fat Undateable Bake Off - and local radio trickles ("Forever FM... get in touch with your favourite bubble-wrap memories...") helped, and Kay and Sian Gibson gelled as ever, but you wonder whether both aren't just a little glad to get shot of it, after an unsuccessful (worse, just unfunny) improvised recent episode for which they got pelters on (sigh) social media. It'll still be hailed as something of a delight in reminding us of the glories that can be found in the dullest of routine lives, but I hadn't quite remembered the relative grubbiness of some of the gags. Then again, life - the idea of human perfection being, remember, preposterous - is mostly grubby. Amen to that.

For the most part it was weak, bland and pretty boring stuff.

Peter Kay's Car Share finale review

Peter Kay's Car Share finale didn't need to exist - but you'd need a heart of stone not to be moved by it anyway.

6 million watch Peter Kay's Car Share finale

Peter Kay's Car Share: The Finale peaked at 6.4 million viewers on Bank Holiday Monday.

British Comedy Guide, 29th May 2018

Although Peter Kay has spent 2018 out of the spotlight due to what the comic has described as "unforeseen family circumstances", he has still managed to put out the final two episodes of his beloved Bafta-winning sitcom. The first, Car Share: Unscripted, was a hit-and-miss improvised episode that included a joke some viewers considered transphobic. Will this overall finale be a more decisive hit? And will John (Kay) and Kayleigh (Sian Gibson) drive off into the sunset?
