Danny is finding Veronica's world frustratingly tedious and is struggling to cope. How can he maintain appearances when he's only just finding out who this woman 'Veronica Burton' really is? He can't stand Veronica's friends for starters, her best friend, Siobhan has realised Ali is having an affair and Jay is getting quite insistent on trying to re-start a physical relationship.

Meanwhile, his friends Pete and Fiona are still worried about his whereabouts and are starting to get suspicious of the attractive journalist who's suddenly so interested in finding him! Danny's sure Fiona seems quite attracted to him as Veronica - which seems to be the only advantage of being Veronica - but he's probably just imagining it. Meanwhile, life as a homeless man on the streets gets even worse for Veronica. As the pressure mounts at work, and his initial efforts to find Veronica come to nothing, Danny decides he has to make a better job of imitating Veronica. He attempts to throw himself into the fashion world at a big show, but it's a disaster and he ends up getting so drunk that he reduces a model to tears after a typically Danny rant about the industry.

Meanwhile, Fiona and Pete play detective. They trace Danny's movements on the night of the storm and get embroiled in the dodgier side of Danny's life. After drinking even more and getting more morose Danny goes home to find Jay physically persistent. Depressed, trapped and intoxicated, he's eventually forced to succumb to Jay's attentions. Close your eyes and desperately think of something nice - Keira Knightley, Keira Knightley...

Press

A show so bad it's, er, really bad

Boy Meets Girl is just plain old-fashioned bad, and it pretty much set the tone for the rest of the Bank Holiday telly.

Ally Ross, The Sun, 8th May 2009

Not Martin Freeman's greatest work

Does it work? Well, no. But let's not go crazy in our ambition here. It's ITV1. What's important is that it's not awful - and actually quite watchable, if just to try and figure out how it's going to keep going.

Stuart McGurk, The London Paper, 8th May 2009

The second episode of this body-swap comedy drama, starring Martin Freeman and Rachael Stirling, and it's not yet as terrible as its premise suggests. Tonight ex-wideboy and now fashion journalist Danny (played by Stirling) launches a drunken attack on the fashion industry.

Matt Warman, The Telegraph, 8th May 2009

Actress Rachael Stirling's impression of a man trapped in a woman's body is worth watching this so-so comedy-drama for.

The Sun, 8th May 2009

If you found yourself trapped in the wrong body, would anyone believe you? That's the predicament facing Veronica and Danny in week two of the sweetly subversive gender-swapping comedy.

Rachael Stirling still has the best time of it as she tries to get her new man's brain around the vagaries of fashion while fending off the romantic advances of her sock-ironing boyfriend Jay (Paterson Joseph).

For Martin Freeman, who now has the body of a DIY store worker and the mind of a frothy fashion journalist, life is an endless round of police cells as he doesn't even know his own name.

But he does know Veronica's name - so why doesn't he simply phone her, instead of constantly barging into her office and home like a total loon?

But there are two more weeks left, so the two leads must be kept apart a little longer. For now, enjoy their discomfort and some lovely performances as they discover how the other half lives.

Jane Simon, The Mirror, 8th May 2009

Radio Times Review

What I like about it is its underlying decency. And, no, I haven't started wearing a bonnet and having the vapours at the sight of uncovered piano legs before taking refuge on my fainting couch. But if you watch it - and I recommend that you do - you'll realise that all of the characters are good-hearted in a way that isn't remotely sickly.
