Bernard Black, owner of Black Books, spends his days abusing customers and drinking large quantities of wine in his unkempt book store. His sole friend Fran works in the gift shop next door, but soon becomes embroiled in a life of novelty-seeking when she loses her job. They are promptly joined by luscious-locked Manny, an ex-accountant with many a hidden talent. If only Bernard would acknowledge it.
