Hammed Animashaun interview
Tell us about Black Ops. What's it about? Who do you play?
Black Ops is a comedy thriller centred around two black PCSOs (police community support officers), Dom and Kay, who have been tasked with going undercover to infiltrate a criminal gang. Only problem, is that they have absolutely no undercover experience whatsoever. And they are anything but street wise! What could possibly go wrong?
The show is packed with funny moments, but also manages to have a thriller aspect. That must be a hard balance to get right.
You'd think so but when you have incredible writers like Gbemi, AK, Joe and Lloyd, anything's possible!
The show features lots of great established British sitcom actors. Who did you enjoy working with most?
Everyone was just so incredible! Working with Katherine Kelly was definitely a "pinch me, I'm dreaming" moment - she's one of my favourite actors!
Your and Gbemi's characters are kind of a double-act. What's it like to be in that situation, working so closely with another actor?
I loved working with Gbemi. I've been the biggest fan of hers for the longest time, so having the opportunity to work with her was definitely a tick off the bucket list. She's family now! Hopefully she'd say the same! Ha!
One scene we see early on in the show is Dom driving Kay around in a police car, with his bottom poking through the window. How was that scene to film?
I've got some bad news for you - that wasn't my bum bum. I had a great butt double to do that stunt. But if I was allowed to do that stunt, I would've!
Do you think you'd manage to be an undercover officer in real life?
Absolutely not. I'd tell too many extravagant lies that wouldn't make sense and would eventually get caught out. I'm not built for it. Ha!
Black Ops looks set to be a hit. So, without spoiling the ending, do you think there's scope to return for a second series? Presumably you'd be up for that?
Thank you! Yes, there's definitely scope for a second series and I'd 100% be up for it. It's not up to me though, we need the public to watch - so tune in BBC One and iPlayer on Friday 5th May at 9:30pm! It's a great ride - you won't be disappointed!
