Swingers Donald and Jacqueline accept with alacrity an invitation to Joyce's boudoir - they've had her "pegged as curious" all series - but their ardour is dampened when she reveals she needs them to snoop around Solana and identify a mole. Some ingrate has been feeding scurrilous stories about the resort to the local rag.

Meanwhile, scary Trudy goads gormless Liam into playing a trick on Sam, and Madge girds herself for her second wedding in Benidorm. It's well plotted with lots of caustic lines, a medieval joust, a Scooby-Doo twist - and another chump learning to their cost, "Don't mess with the Garveys!"

Patrick Mulkern, Radio Times, 30th March 2012

From start (By the Sleepy Lagoon drifts over Jan and Mick as they discuss toes) to finish (Con te partirò swells over a jubilant pool party), this episode is an unbridled joy. The second penned by Steve Pemberton, it subtly gets under the skin of the broad characters.

Madge turns cougar with her young "Muslamic" catch Mohammed, Gavin is trapped with Noreen, Sam gets off with the most unlikely bloke, and Trudy (too old) and Michael (too young) try to crash an 18-30 booze cruise.

Plus, Siobhan Redmond guest-stars as the coach of an Olympic swimming team. Think an ultra-brusque Miss Jean Brodie and you'll be halfway there.

Patrick Mulkern, Radio Times, 23rd March 2012

One of the finest episodes of this series to date, scripted by Steve Pemberton. Led by a fearsome martinet of a coach, members of the British Olympic synchronised swimming team turn up at the hotel, with a fawning Joyce prepared to eject guests from the pool to accommodate them. Elegant they may be but, as Tim Healy's down-to-earth transvestite has it, they're "thrashing about like a bag of cats in a canal" beneath the surface. While it's not exactly Pinter, it's ITV fun at its best.

David Stubbs, The Guardian, 22nd March 2012

Michelle Butterly: 'Trudy is bad ass!'

Benidorm fans will see spirited scouser Trudy play a very cruel trick on her mate Sam in episode six.

Benidorm cast in BGT sketch for Sport Relief

The cast of Benidorm face the wrath of Simon Cowell in a hilarious Britain's Got Talent spoof for Sport Relief.

The Mirror, 20th March 2012

Janice is alarmed to read that a gang is going round Benidorm kidnapping people off the streets and stealing their vital organs. And when young Michael sees his nana, Madge, being bundled into a car, the Garveys fear the worst.

Meanwhile, daffy Noreen chums up with sulky Gavin - who knows where that might lead! Joyce tries to impress the oafish editor of Costa Class magazine, and Jacqueline and Donald download Swingfinder, a phone app that locates broadminded playmates anywhere in the world. They're soon up to some "very consenting" role-play.

Scary Trudy, however, moans that she hasn't "had a whiff of it" all week, so Sam dares her to try acting ladylike for 24 hours. These two are quickly becoming Solana favourites, as is slack Alice hairstylist Kenneth with his über-camp wardrobe. In such a busy episode there are inevitable misfires but still plenty of coarse cackles in the sun. Not to be sniffed at.

Adam Gillen: 'It goes horribly wrong for Liam'

What's On TV travelled to the Spanish fishing village of Calpe to meet Adam Gillen as he filmed episode five of ITV1's Benidorm.

What's On TV, 16th March 2012

"Benidorm is becoming the organ theft capital of Spain," reads Janice (Siobhan Finneran) in the local paper. The headline is referring to a gang who are kidnapping people and pinching their kidneys. So no wonder there's panic in tonight's visit to the sun-drenched sitcom when Madge (Shelia Reid) is seen being bundled into the back of a car. Elsewhere, Jacqueline (Janine Duvitski) coos over the flurry of messages she's receiving through the new swingers app on her husband's phone. "It must be that picture of Condoleezza Rice I put on my profile," she says.

Toby Dantzic, The Telegraph, 15th March 2012

Steve Pemberton (the show's Mick Garvey) takes over writing duties for this week's hilarious dose of sun, sand and smut.

As it's the first episode not written by creator Derren Litten, I'd like to thank Steve, on behalf of all women, for making Mateo pool lifeguard and putting him in red Speedos and baby oil.

Meanwhile, Mick's not at all happy when his father and layabout brother (ably played by David Bradley and Shaun Dooley) arrive for a raucous stag do.

And no, it's not just because it's going to be in fancy dress.

Jane Simon, The Mirror, 9th March 2012

Fans should note this is the first episode in five series not written by show creator Derren Litten. It's by Steve Pemberton, and Benidorm scholars - should such a body exist - will be scanning for any discernible difference. If anything, there's an upsurge in vulgarity and word play, including a hitherto unimagined double entendre for Botticelli.

Pemberton, who's slimmed down since last year, is on good form as northern everyman Mick Garvey. Tonight, Mick's dad and brother turn up, an unsavoury duo played by David Bradley and Shaun Dooley. A stag-do bar crawl ensues with the Garveys, plus Kenneth, Donald and Liam in some outrageous outfits.
