An unforseen cog in the works of Gruber's plans lead René to run away from the duel without a shot having been fired. Monsieur Alfonse is outraged - until Michelle explains his importance to the resistance.

Mssr. Alphonse is mortally insulted that Edith would chose René over him and challenges René to a duel with pistols. The Colonel helps René in his predicament by ordering troop maneuvers at the site of the duel.
