A Very Polish Practice
This one-off special sees Stephen and Grete now living in Warsaw. Despite the chaos caused by the disintegration of communism, Stephen is happy working as a hospital doctor. Then Bob Buzzard turns up...
Rather than being trapped inside the microcosm of the university, this time we see the outside world and discover that modern life in A Very Peculiar Practice wasn't much of an exaggeration. The hospital Stephen works in is desperately underfunded and dilapidated, but Stephen seems content, because it means he can get on with being a good doctor. (He also finds that it reminds him of Walsall.) But once again, private enterprise and corporate self-interest threatens everything, and in addition, Grete's ex-lover, a menacing gangster (Alfred Molina), begins to occupy Stephen's nightmares. And the nuns keep turning up too.
