Sitcom Mission

Welcome to Wolf Country

By: Chris Allsop & Stuart Gidden

Sitcom Mission 2012 finalist

Times are tough for Drew. Not only is he emotionally and financially battered by the dismal failure of his life-coaching business (despite minimal casualties), but his dad's in prison and, worst of all, he's had to decamp from his home in sunny LA all the way to a grim flat in Camden Town. The reason? His crazy, rich English uncle (it really is a nightmare family) has decided Drew has been cossetted in California too long and would capitalise on a quick course of Camden common-sense (the uncle is a big fan of alliteration).

So if Drew wants his uncle's life-coach-saving loan, he better grin and bear his dilapidated new circumstances - and that means getting on with short-tempered new flatmate Kelly, a music journo so wrapped up in fantasising over a rock 'n' roll idol she's neglected the shake 'n' vac the flat sorely needs. Just when grime and the lascivious landlord seem too much for Drew, enter Adrian Pope: Kelly's squatter ex-boyfriend, once a high-flier on the Camden music scene but now occupying a space somewhere between overlooked and total has-been. Can they learn to play the pipes of peace together, or will they end up howling in despair?

Chris Allsop & Stuart Gidden

Stuart Gidden is a former editor and now freelance journalist. Having lived in numerous flatshares across North London over the years, Stuart's experience of feckless flatmates, nightmare neighbours and, erm, lackadaisical landlords has informed at least one character in Wolf Country.

Chris Allsop is a freelance writer currently completing his MFA in Creative Writing at Antioch University in LA. He recently won the AWP Intro Journal Award for his short fiction.

Former flatmates, Chris and Stuart have known each other for a decade. They waited until they lived thousands of miles apart before trying to collaborate on a writing project. Wolf Country is their first effort.
