The Sitcom Mission 2017
Sunday 22nd January 2017
Welcome to The Sitcom Mission 2017 - we're open for business!
We're evolving again this year, mainly with the way we do our Bronze, Silver and Gold feedback. We want to get as many reviews out as we can and help as many people improve their scripts as possible, so we're expanding the bullet-point feedback that's proven very popular in recent years.
So a Gold Bullet feedback, at £50, will get you a one-page bullet point review, the chance to rewrite your script and then get a second one-pager so that you can do another rewrite before the closing date. For those who are considering Regular entry and want some feedback, we're introducing Bronze Bullet, a one-pager for £20.
A full feedback service will still be available, and it'll be expanded because the review will be longer with more recommendations for what to work on and suggestions for how to improve, but we'll only be providing one review instead of the two that we've done in previous years (we found that the feedbacks were picking up the same points 80% of the time, so we were repeating ourselves a lot).
Deadlines for feedback are:
28th February 2017: Gold/Gold Bullet
31st March 2017: Silver/Silver Bullet
30th April 2017: Bronze/Bronze Bullet (& Regular entry)
As well as us providing feedback, we'd love to hear what you think of what we do (good and bad) and how you'd like to see us improve. We're always open to ideas and suggestions. For example, in a recent Taster class, we asked our students what their favourite sitcoms were. Around 90% of them named sitcoms that were from writer-performers, so should we have a special section or guaranteed longlist slot for sketch groups or stand-ups that want to perform their own material? We've had them in the final before, with Those Three Girls winning in 2013 and Kate Smurthwaite a finalist in 2015, but should we guarantee a longlist spot to encourage more writer-performers? We'd be interested to know what you think.
And, while that debate rages on, we're looking forward to reading your scripts. Bring them on...
