How To Annoy A Script Reader - Part 10

10: Whacky situations.

There's nothing wrong with high concept situations and concepts as long as the show is grounded in a universal truth and has identifiable characters to match. If I can't empathise or familiarise with the show, a whacky situation won't save you. No one has ever said "the amusement park in that show is HILARIOUS!"

Always begin with the characters and work backwards. They are the driving force of your show.
