How To Annoy A Script Reader - Part 1
Wednesday 20th May 2015
The first in a series of blogs in which we reveal the things that script readers have told us they hate...
1: Too many parentheticals or overly detailed scene descriptions
Unless you're a writer/director, just don't.
As for parentheticals, if the intention is unclear try to get the character to do something that makes it clear. This is much stronger.
We really don't need to know the exact brand and colour of each shirt the protagonist is wearing. Only do this when absolutely necessary, e.g. if the item or scene description tells you something relevant for the plot or tells you something about the character other than his taste in clothes.
