Susan Calman to write book on depression

Susan Calman

Stand-up comedian, writer and actor Susan Calman is to have her first book published, in a deal announced today.

Publishing house Two Roads will release Cheer Up Love: Further Adventures of the Crab of Hate in May 2016.

Two Roads, an imprint of Hodder & Stoughton, explain: "The book will examine Calman's life coping with depression and 'how, with a bit of work and a lot of box sets, she started appreciating how excellent gloomy people actually are'."

They describe the book as "a survival handbook on how to think positively when you're the world's most negative person".

Susan Calman said today: "Nothing makes me happier than talking about depression and hopefully people will enjoy reading my particular brand of advice on the subject. Packed with stories, humour and a bit of the serious stuff, I will literally write the book on how it feels to be told 'Cheer up Love'. I can't wait to get started."

Cheer Up Love expected to be available to pre-order soon.

In other news, the comedian is set to present another stand-up series on Radio 4. Keep Calman Carry On, which is due to be recorded in London this October, will see her try to learn how to relax, by "investigating pursuits in which her friends find solace or sanctuary, and then report back to the audience on how successful she has been."
