  • Tom Allen is to publish his memoir in November
  • No Shame will focus on his time growing up in 90s suburbia, and coming out as gay
  • His publishers say the book will be written with his "trademark caustic wit and warmth"

Tom Allen has written his autobiography.

No Shame will be published on Thursday 12th November by Hodder Studio, an imprint of Hachette.

"I'm delighted to tell you I've written a book!" Allen announced on Twitter. "It's about growing up in 90s suburbia, overcoming shame, coming out & coming to terms with being an outsider (and the laughs along the way!)"

The publishers describe the book as "a very funny, candid and emotional ride of a memoir by one of our most beloved comedians. The working-class son of a coach driver, and the youngest member of the Noel Coward Society, Tom Allen grew up in 1990s south London suburbs, an "eternal outsider".

"In these hilarious, honest and heart breaking stories Tom recalls observations on childhood, his adolescence, the family he still lives with, and his attempts to come out and negotiate the gay dating scene. They are written with his trademark caustic wit and warmth, and will entertain, surprise and move you in equal measure."

It was recently announced that The Bake Off: The Professionals host is to present Tom Allen: Ad Man for Channel 4, an archive show looking at the history of television adverts. He will also shortly be seen on Channel 4 in the one-off special Tom Allen Goes To Town, in which he visits Wakefield and then performs a comedy show there.

No Shame is available to pre-order now.

"When I was 16 I dressed in Victorian clothing in a bid to distract people from the fact that I was gay. It was a flawed plan."
