Laura Lexx gets two book deal
- Laura Lexx is to publish an imaginary diary of life married to football manager Jürgen Klopp
- Writing Klopp Actually follows on from her viral twitter thread, which has been viewed over 5 million times
- Publishers Two Roads have also signed her to write Pivot, a novel about a women's netball team
Stand-up comedian Laura Lexx is to publish an imaginary diary of life married to football manager Jürgen Klopp.
She also will write Pivot, a novel about an amateur women's netball team.
Based on Lexx's viral twitter thread, Klopp Actually will follow Laura as she escapes the chaos of the world by imagining what football's most sensible heartthrob would say as she navigates the stresses and anxieties of day-to-day life, from job interviews to furniture shopping in IKEA to making a birthday cake for their daughter, Klipp.
The original tweet has so far received 5.6m views on Twitter alone, 600,000 interactions, over 13.4k retweets and 55.4k likes, with interaction and endorsements from celebrities as diverse as Seth Meyers, Gary Lineker and Carol Vorderman. Author Marian Keyes said: "I'd LOVE to read a whole book of Laura's funny, clever, sweet imagination... it made me laugh a huge amount!"
Lexx's 2019 stand-up show, Knee Jerk, featured netball, asking the question "Can you use netball to solve the gender pay gap?"
Klopp Actually will publish in hardback, eBook and audio in early autumn 2020, with Pivot coming in 2022.
Laura Lexx says: "I'm so excited that I have the chance to write - making people laugh with that thread was lovely in itself, but the fact that it's led to me being able to write a full book and another novel is just making me burst with pride. This goes out for everyone who ever messed about on Twitter instead of working... sometimes it pays off."
Kate Hewson from publishing house Two Roads comments: "Laura's Jürgen Klopp thread was the first thing to make me laugh in days, and it translates wonderfully to the page - it's the hilarious, heartfelt escapism we all need right now. Just as exciting, though, is Laura's funny, warm-hearted novel, and we're thrilled to be Laura's publishing home for what we're sure is the start of a brilliant new branch of her career."
Klopp Actually
A hilarious diary of married life with the sensible, no-nonsense man of all our dreams: Jürgen Klopp, from critically-acclaimed comedian and Twitter sensation Laura Lexx.
Inspired by the viral tweet: 'If I ever met Jürgen Klopp I'd say "omg if we have a baby we should call it Klipp" just so he'd raise an eyebrow at me and tell me I'm a moron and I'd be so naked by the time he'd finished doing that...'
In these uncertain times we all need a coping mechanism. And Laura Lexx has found the obvious one - imagining life married to the sensible, no-nonsense man of our dreams, Jürgen Klopp. She thinks maybe he has something to do with football? More importantly, he definitely knows how to efficiently stack a dishwasher and would tell you honestly if you were being unreasonable about a colleague.
From job interviews to furniture shopping in IKEA to making a birthday cake for their daughter, Klipp, Klopp Actually is a hilarious, warm and deeply silly diary of life with everyone's favourite baseball-cap-wearing, bespectacled German football manager.
'I shiver, my skin breaking out into tiny goosebumps. "Are you cold?" He whispers, his lips brushing my ear, making the fine hairs ripple. "A little." I grin, pressing against his thigh. He runs a hand down the curve of my spine... "You should put a jumper on."'
