No Such Thing As A Fish team return with 2018 book
- The No Such Thing team are to pen a second Book Of The Year
- The Book Of The Year 2018 is scheduled for publication in October
Random House publishing has announced that it has acquired a second Book Of The Year from James Harkin, Andrew Hunter Murray, Anna Ptaszynski and Dan Schreiber.
The creators and presenters of award-winning podcast No Such Thing As A Fish, and its BBC Two adaptation No Such Thing As The News, all of whom are researchers for QI, will collate and write the new compendium of factual oddities from the current year.
Publishers tease: "The Book Of The Year 2018 will bravely delve behind the headlines to sniff out the best and most bizarre facts of the last twelve months. Among many other things, it will establish that:
• Britain's first robot shop assistant was sacked after a week.
• Donald Trump claimed the US sells F52 planes to Norway, even though F52 planes only exist in the game Call of Duty.
• During the Winter Olympics, it was so windy during the Women's Slopestyle Final that every single competitor was blown off her snowboard.
• A snail racing competition in Plymouth was postponed because the snails were too 'sluggish' to take part.
"Ranging from the distinctly offbeat to the wonderfully ludicrous - from the South Africans who were rationed to just one toilet flush per day, to the Nutella riots spreading across France, via the Miami Bitcoin conference that stopped accepting Bitcoin - The Book Of The Year promises a fact for every occasion and will prove the perfect Christmas gift for all trivia buffs."
The book will be released in hardback, eBook and audiobook formats and is scheduled for publication in October. The initial 2017 Book Of The Year was published on 2nd November.
No Such Thing As A Fish say: "We were concerned nothing could top 2017 for bizarre news stories, but 2018 has already come up Trumps, with the first four months being unrelentingly Stormy. We're sure this book will be a Musk read for all fact-fans, so hopefully you'll all be Putin it under your Christmas trees this year. Markle our words, 2018 is set to be the weirdest year since last year."
Publisher Nigel Wilcockson adds: "Last year's Book Of The Year was, in my view, the book of the year. Given the genius that is No Such Thing As A Fish, I can confidently predict that this year's alI-new edition will follow suit."
Pre-orders are expected to begin being taken later this month.
No Such Thing As A Fish Presents The Book Of The Year
The Book Of The Year will be precisely what its title promises: an entertaining, fact-filled journey into the more bizarre reaches of the past twelve months. Among many, many other things, it will establish:
- Who has played the greater number of golf rounds since the turn of 2017: Rory McIlroy or Donald Trump.
- Precisely how many members of Britain's Parachute Regiment aren't actually qualified to use parachutes.
- Why a parliamentary inquiry into why parliamentary inquiries take so long has been delayed.
Venturing fearlessly from Australia (where toad-flavoured sausages are being deployed to stop predators from eating real toads) to India (where you can now buy a washing machine with a special curry stain button), this will be the year, not as the headlines defined it, but as it ought to be remembered.
The Book Of The Year will prove the perfect Christmas gift, the ideal conversation starter (and stopper), and the ultimate source of wisdom for all lovers of trivia.
