John Cleese book tour announced
John Cleese is to tour the UK with a new one-man show, based around his new book.
The Monty Python star will be appearing on stage at theatres in Cambridge, Aylesbury, Malvern, Edinburgh, London, Canterbury, Warwick, Guildford, Tunbridge Wells, Bristol and at The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Festival of Literature.
The tour blurb explains: "John Cleese is a comedy legend and the most senile member of Monty Python. Best known for his idiosyncratic turns in Monty Python and Fawlty Towers, John will be bringing his unique comedic perspective to audiences across the UK this autumn with tales from his new book, So, Anyway.
"Cleese has achieved a lot in his career which started as a sketch writer for BBC Radio's Dick Emery Show and then The Frost Report. After this, stardom beckoned, and Monty Python was created with Cleese co-writing and staring in four series and three films. He went on to achieve further success as the neurotic hotel manager Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers, which he co-wrote with then wife Connie Booth.
"After huge UK success, John went on to crack the USA with A Fish Called Wanda (which he wrote and starred in with Jamie Lee Curtis). The late 1990s saw the unstoppable Mr Cleese appear in Bond movie The World is Not Enough and later Die Another Day.
"Exploring his thoughts on topics as diverse as the nature of comedy, the relative merits of cricket and water-skiing, and the importance of knowing the dates of all the kings and queens of England, this is a masterly performance by a master performer."
Cleese will be touring from October, into December. For more information see www.johncleesetour.com
Tickets are priced at around £30, which will include a signed copy of the new book.
As well as the one-man show, Cleese will undertake some book signing sessions. The first will be held at Waterstones flagship London store in Piccadilly on publication day, 9th October. He will also sign at Heffers in Cambridge and Toppings in Bath; further signings are scheduled in the run up to Christmas and include WHSmith in Selfridges in London on 11th December.
Cleese will be following in the footsteps of fellow Monty Python star Michael Palin, who is already touring a show related to his third memoir
