It's A Great Day / The Girl Who Couldn't Quite

Double bill of British comedy dramas.

In It's A Great Day (1955), builder Bob Grove (Edward Evans), under pressure to finish work on a housing estate for an impending royal visit, is implicated in criminal activities when his son Jack (Peter Bryant) procures stolen materials to finish the job. But when Bob's employers at the council hear of the shady dealings they call in the police to investigate, leaving the family with a fight to clear their name.

In The Girl Who Couldn't Quite (1950), Elizabeth Henson stars as Ruth, a teenager who has been unable to smile since childhood. But when her mother Pamela (Betty Stockfield) finds her laughing one day at a tramp called Tim (Bill Owen) she decides to invite the stranger to stay with them in a bid to cure her daughter's misery. Tim manages to gain Ruth's friendship and trust as she begins to open up to him, but will their unlikely partnership be able to survive?
