Billy Connolly art book priced at £1250
Billy Connolly: Born On A Rainy Day, a book featuring the art of Billy Connolly, is to be published in July.
However, the product - which also comes with a framed signed print - is unlikely to be able to be owned by most of his fans, as it has been priced at £1250.
The 496 page deluxe coffee table book is being released exclusively by dealers Castle Fine Art. However, it is possible to obtain it for 'just' £895 by opting for a non-framed version of the print, and subscribing to the shop's mailing list for a pre-order discount code.
Born On A Rainy Day showcases "around 300" of the comedian's iconic drawings and sculptures, with commentary on the artwork by the artist himself. The book also features a foreword from his wife, Pamela Stephenson-Connolly.
The below video sees Connolly showcasing the book. He says: "It's a serious book. When you get this book you'll say 'this guy is an artist. This guy knows what he's doing'."
Billy Connolly - Born On A Rainy Day
This beautifully presented deluxe coffee table book features around 300 of Billy Connolly's iconic drawings and sculptures throughout its 496 pages. With a foreword by Pamela Stephenson-Connolly, and commentary on the artworks by Billy himself, Born On A Rainy Day is truly a must-have for any Billy Connolly collector.
Each book will also come with 'Self Portrait', a hand-signed framed limited edition giclée print by Billy Connolly.
It was on a rainy day in 2007 that Billy first put pen to paper. Taking refuge from the grey drizzle of Montreal, Canada, he entered an art shop with a twinkling curiosity and left with an armful of supplies and the urge to create. Over the next five years his drawings evolved into his debut fine art collection, Born On A Rainy Day, which launched in 2012. Billy's initial works were in black and white, but as he's progressed, he's brought dynamic colours into his pieces.
Being described by The Times as 'poignant', 'funny' and 'enigmatic', Billy's art is charmingly simplistic, his faceless figures possess an extraordinary self-awareness and humanity. Devoid of emotion or expression, their anonymity opens them up to individual interpretation, creating a unique bond with the viewer. In 2020, he released his first sculpture, followed by two more in 2021.
