Mrs. Brown's Boys - Series One
Mrs. Brown's Boys returns with a Christmas special on Boxing Day, and Series 1 of the smash-hit Dublin-set sitcom - broadcast at the start of the year - is out now on DVD. It may have divided opinion in the comedy industry, but the popularity of this riotous comedy with the public simply cannot be denied.
Morecambe & Wise: Two Of A Kind
Thanks to the kind folks at Network DVD, we can heartily recommend this televisual delight for your comedy Christmas stocking. There's no denying that some of the material has dated, but there's also a lot that remains very funny, and Eric & Ernie's charm is unmistakable. Their earliest surviving TV work, this is where the seeds of the boys' mainstream success were first sewn.
Australian stand-up comedian Adam Hills is probably best identified in the UK as "the one with the false leg", and his first ever live DVD in the UK is now available to own.
As with any and all sketch shows, Barking is hit and miss. There are some wonderful ideas peppered throughout 1998's six episodes. Some fall somewhat short of the mark, whilst others are inspired. But the real draw of this show is its writing and performing credits. Experience early, formative TV work from the likes of Catherine Tate, Peter Kay, David Walliams and Matt Lucas, Mackenzie Crook, Marcus Brigstocke, Omid Djalili, and many more.
Voted the Queen of Comedy at the 2010 British Comedy Awards back in January, Miranda Hart's taken Britain by storm since her TV sitcom launched on BBC Two in 2009. Now a year since the broadcast, you can once again enjoy the utter delight of her sitcom's second series thanks to 4DVD - and before anyone asks, Series 3 is expected on BBC One in late 2012.
