Brendon Burns releases stand-up show online

Brendon Burns

Brendon Burns has become the first major UK-based comedian to make his new stand-up show available via download.

The comedian has released Y' Know - Love 'n' God 'n' Metaphysics 'n' Shit (A song for Bean) online for just £4. It's available worldwide, with no rights restrictions.

A spokesperson for Burns says: "Breaking the mould of traditional models of distribution, this bold move is a testament to Brendon's understanding of today's plugged-in fans, giving them a cheap and easily accessible opportunity to see their stand-up hero."

Comedians making their comedy available for download - and thus skipping the costs of distributing via traditional shops - looks set to become the future. American comic Louis CK has lead the way in the States, netting over $1m in under a fortnight when he offered his stand-up show for download for just $5.

Meanwhile Manchester-based comic Michael J Dolan has recently been trailing out a new method for distributing audio comedy. The stand-up recently released part of his album online for free, with a £5 price point for listeners to download the rest if they like it.

Commenting on is new release, Brendon Burns says: "It's just four pounds, emotionally honest and easily one of my five favourite things I've ever made. And I hope a bit of a departure from the current standard fare."

He added: "This is completely going on the Louie CK download model. I'm aware that I'm not Louie CK but I'm also aware that more people have downloaded my shows illegally than those of people that sell way more DVD's than I with way more exposure. So like Louie CK did, I would just like to ask people politely, please don't steal this. We are an independent company shooting everything on a low budget, just me and a few of my producer/director friends. We were hands on for every part of the process and we didn't have to pander to anyone in its production and I'm sure you'll agree I've done a pretty good job of remaining fairly anonymous. I get it that I'm a bit of a niche guy and the internet is my friend but if it's OK with you I'd really appreciate being able to keep doing what I do the way I want to do it, without having to fit my square peg of a head into increasingly round holes."

The comedian concludes with the statement: "No deconstruction, no transparent pandering to psuedo-pundits and no adolescent declarations of who is and isn't funny for a cheap laugh."

The show is available to download for £4 from www.brendonburnscomedian.com
