Grace realises that she and Peter can't cross the divide and splits up with him. she meets Malcolm, a widower, and they begin a gentle romance. Ben continues seeing Lucy, but the pressure is on him as he finds out about her disastrous romantic past. When Francesca, who works in Ben's opticians, becomes entangled with Dougie, Simone's brother, it serves to bring Ben and Grace back together.
