It is peaceful at the Surplus Ordnance Depot at Nether Hopping, Staffs. Major Upshot-Bagley, the O.C., has time to keep pigs, while Sgt.-Major Percy Bullimore keeps the men firmly under control. But when a new draft of National Servicemen arrives - old enemies of Perce - "war" comes to Nether Hopping.
