When a welcome pack to the UK offers advice on how to talk to strangers, Mirek, a migrant worker, decides to spend his one day off each week attempting to get to know the ways and people of Britain, and prove to his disillusioned flatmate that there is such a thing as the British Dream after all. But Mirek starts to wonder whether the pack is really the reliable guide as he first believed it to be.

Mirek has come to the UK to build a new life for himself, but his flatmate Alex is already preparing to go back to Latvia - after all, everyone has heard of the American Dream but who has ever heard of the British one? And besides, in this current economic climate, jobs are hard to find. Optimistic Mirek disagrees - he has a job in a supermarket and he loves the British way of life.

Alex has never even opened the welcome pack given to him by the council but Mirek has complete faith in his. There's even a whole section on how to talk strangers, and Mirek is not surprised as he believes the British are the friendliest people on Earth. With the pack as his trusty guide, Mirek will prove to Alex that the British Dream really does exist and this island deserves another chance.
