In 2005 Tim Minchin won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe, and now Radio 2 listeners get to hear what all the fuss is about with Tim's first concert for the BBC.
As well as performing solo at the Yamaha Baby Grand, he forms an impromptu jazz trio with the 'Tim Minchin swinging duo of musicalness', duets with the critically acclaimed singer songwriter Lucie Silvas, and raps with US sensation Reggie Watts. There are also interruptions and educational asides as he's joined by the Perrier nominated children's entertainer Mr Jeremy Lion (Justin Edwards).
Tim's songs cover the spectrum of emotions and deal with such subject matter as: love of an inflatable woman (Inflatable You), the climate change debate (Canvas Bags), and he looks back at the events of 2006 with the lament 'What Was 06 For'.
Tim Minchin And Friends is an hour of virtuoso musicianship packed with funny ideas, and turn of the year sentiment.
