Tim Vine interview

Tim Vine

Following the success of last year's pilot episode, The Tim Vine Chat Show returns to BBC radio for a full series. The format sees the always-funny Tim Vine making stars of those in his audience. Whether it be an accountant from Aberdeen or a window cleaner from Wooster, the host will aim to get the best anecdotes from his guests. When it doesn't work, he always has his trademark puns to fall back on.

In this quick-fire Q&A, we find out more from the host...

Hi Tim. Please describe your new series in 6 words...

Tim Vine interviews public. It funny.

The title of the show is very factual. If you had to re-name it to be more obscure, what would you call it instead?

A bunch of grapes.

What was the strangest occupation you encountered in a guest?

Part-time cowboy.

If you gave some monkeys a typewriter, what do you think the best joke they could come up with is?

Well, whatever it is, watching a monkey typing would be funnier. Monkeys are great at visual stuff.

If we gave you the typewriter, could you come up with a monkey joke in return?

Yes. That's a gibbon.

Your brother has a radio show too. Do you fancy having a go at swapping with him for one episode?

I'd love to, but I'm just not very good at staying serious. I'd be afraid of making a pun about some terrible affliction.

If you get another Radio 4 series, are there any particular guests you'd like to chat to next time?

I would just love to keep chatting to regular people. They all have a story to tell. And I especially like people with jobs I recognise. I still don't have a clue what a management consultant does.

Who's been your favourite guest so far?

An unemployed secretary called Debbie who I played 'Whistle Word' with. I whistled a word and she had to try and guess the word.

Do you think The Tim Vine Chat Show might transfer to TV one day too?

That would be nice, then I could involve my eyebrows. I do quite a lot of eyebrow work that doesn't come over on the radio. By the way, did you know there are twice as many eyebrows in the world as there are people?

What's next for you Tim?

I'm going to have a cup of tea.

The Tim Vine Chat Show is on Radio 4 on Thursdays at 6:30pm. Listen now via BBC Radio iPlayer
