George Mainwaring has returned to England, having been working in Switzerland. He is shocked to learn that Frambourne is demolishing the local pier. Mainwaring goes to the bank to get a loan so that he can buy the pier, and is startled to discover the bank manager is his former employee, Arthur Wilson.
