Joe is a loser from a family of losers, who realises that to be cool enough for childhood sweetheart Sasha, he has to make something happen.
Joe's absent Aunty Cara, who the family dislikes, dies. Cara had escaped England in the Nineties and become an indie movie producer in the States - the only member of the family that had ever achieved anything.
To Joe, Aunty Cara was great. She never forgot his birthday - always sending crazy cards and some weird DVD. And now she's sent him her diaries and her camera and, for the first time in his life, Joe has an idea.
Inspired by Aunty Cara and urged on specifically by her voice in his head, Joe swings into action and creates NQ48 - The Northern Quarter 48 Hour Film Festival. To prove himself and to win over Sasha, Joe takes on the crazy amateur filmmakers of Manchester - the egos, delusions, pitches and passions, but most of all, the commitment.
