Newsjack by numbers
One of the measures of success for Newsjack is how many new writers it finds. So after six weeks of looking for those writers and turning their work into a show, what is left to do? To put them all in a spreadsheet and count the buggers, that's what.

BBC, 5th October 2012An essential guide to writing for Newsjack
Newsjack, the topical sketch show now in its seventh series, is back on the air this month and its open format means aspiring writers like me and you - yes, you over there, with a joke in your heart and Wotsit crumbs in your beard - can submit jokes or sketches with the possibility of being broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra.
Marc Paterson, The Huffington Post, 15th September 2012Newsjack (Radio 4 Extra, 10.30pm) is a topical comedy show with a significant difference. Anyone can write for it. This "open door" commitment means you can send in a joke or a sketch and it may get on air. Writers thus discovered include Ben Partridge (who went on to create It's Your Round), Eddie Robson (who wrote Radio 2's Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully) and Nadia Kamil (of The Now Show). I wonder if they all signed up to that iniquitous "standard" contract clause which grants to the BBC "all rights in all media in perpetuity"?

BBC, 7th October 2011Newsjack - Non-commissioned & commissioned
So, that's my last episode for this series done. This week, Jon Hunter takes up the reins as Newsjack script editor - but before I hang up my red pen (or at least put the lid on it), I thought I'd spend a bit of time explaining the contribution that the non-commissioned and commissioned writers make to each show.
