Munya Chawawa is to present a three-part topical comedy show about the General Election on Radio 4 from Tuesday 18th June.
The producers explain: "Munya Chawawa's Election Doom Scroll sees Britain's satirical powerhouse, Munya Chawawa, bring a fresh, distinctive voice to the election coverage. Munya's unique style of comedy speaks to his generation, who are highly politically engaged.
"Throughout the series Munya, who is best known for his online sketches skewering politicians and celebrities, will tackle the omnishambles that is the election campaign, unpacking the week's arguably increasingly absurd campaign news through the medium of the party leaders' mobile phones, with the various apps transitioning us into what he does best - hilarious, reactive sketches that skewer those in power and give listeners the light relief so desperately needed during a tumultuous period."
Munya Chawawa says: "Politics has alienated many of us recently, but hopefully satire will be the super power to get us interested and engaged again. By imagining Rishi Sunak practicing his 'Peasant English' on Duo Lingo, Keir Starmer posting thirst traps on Insta or Ed Davey beating his exercise balls on TikTok - I'd like to think people will take a new interest in the figures vying for our votes. Ultimately, if even only a few more people turnout to vote on July 4th - the mission will have been a success."
Ben Wicks from producers Expectation comments: "After working with Munya on the BAFTA-nominated Race Around Britain, I know he's the sharpest satirist around - so I'm delighted that thanks to the BBC he's setting his sights on the business end of the 2024 General Election. Over three episodes he will provide a hilarious, yet vital public service, in helping people with the arduous task of deciding who not to vote for."
BBC Radio 4's Comedy and Entertainment Commissioner Julia McKenzie, says: "I am absolutely delighted that Munya will bring his inimitable fresh satirical take to Radio 4, joining The News Quiz, Jonathan Pie, Michael Spicer and The Skewer to give listeners an unrivalled selection of election satire and topical comedy, so if you want a laugh, come to Radio 4 and BBC Sounds."
Munya Chawawa's Election Doom Scroll will be on Radio 4 at 6:30pm - 7pm on Tuesdays 18th June, 25th June and 2nd July.
