Lauren Pattison has landed her first Radio 4 series, co-writing and starring in a sitcom about a Geordie couple's struggles to leave the house in 15 minutes, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.
With the working title Tom And Lauren Are Going OOT and taking place in real time, the four 15-minute episodes co-star and are co-written by Tom Machell, whose credits include The Emily Atack Show and Hullraisers. The pair play Millennial professionals, arguing over whose fault it is that they aren't leaving on time.
"To say we are chuffed to bits is an understatement - we're both so proud and passionate about the North-East so to be able to make a show in and about the place we love is incredible" said Pattison.
Machell added: "We are really excited to jump into the world of this show, working with Candle & Bell has been a blast so far. Being able to make a show set in Newcastle made by Geordies is a dream come true."
Directed by Katharine Armitage (DMs Are Open) of sketch group ZazU, the comedy is produced by Zahra Zomorrodian (North East Comedy Hot House sketches) and executive produced by Steve Doherty (Bravo Two Charlies, The Learners) for Gateshead-based production company Candle & Bell, after it benefited from the BBC Small Indie Fund for comedy last year.
Zomorrodian, sometime stand-up and head of comedy for Candle & Bell, said: "We're very excited to be working with Tom and Lauren on this show, and we can't wait to bring this hilarious story to the airwaves. It's our first commission for BBC Radio 4 and we really feel it could be the start of something special."
Two-time Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated Pattison, who starred in the 2018 Radio 1 comedy series Ed And Lauren Get On with fellow comic Ed Night, is returning to the Fringe in August with the show Big Girl Pants at the Monkey Barrel.
