- Do Gooders, a sitcom series about fictional charity Alzheimer's Alliance, is coming to BBC Radio 4
- The episodes will be recorded in front of an audience this May, with the cast including Frank Skinner, Ahir Shah and Ania Magliano
- The series has been created by stand-up comedian Garrett Millerick
Radio 4 has commissioned a new sitcom series about the charity industry.
Do Gooders is described as "a fresh ensemble workplace sitcom for BBC Radio 4 that takes us behind the curtain of the charity industry and mines the numerous frustrations that come with trying to 'do good' on an industrial scale. The show follows the fundraising events team of a [fictional] midlevel charity, Alzheimer's Alliance."
The show is written and created by comedian Garrett Millerick, and will be recorded in front of an audience by producers Avalon (Rum Punch, Relativity). He had previously piloted the idea with Hat Trick Productions for Audible, with Jack Dee and Meera Syal, however this was not picked up for series.
The plot for the Radio 4 run is described as follows: "'AA' are constantly aware that they're never more than one 'ice bucket challenge' away from slipping right down the league tables. Compounding external pressures is a fiercely competitive battle between the teams responsible for the two types of events fundraising, Challenge Events (Bike Rides, Marathons) and Virtual Events (Online)."
Frank Skinner, Ahir Shah and Ania Magliano are amongst the cast confirmed to be taking on roles for the series.
The episodes will be recorded at Theatre Peckham across three nights in May (free tickets), to be broadcast on Radio 4 later this year.
