Radio 4 comedy format Best Medicine has been given a second series.

The format, which was piloted in July 2022 and then returned to the air for a full 10-part series in October 2023, is hosted by Kiri Pritchard-McLean. It's described as "an uplifting panel discussion show that celebrates the inspiring past, present and future of medicine".

The blurb explains: "It's all about little-known facts and deep dives into the science, happy accidents and pioneering historical characters of medicine. Kiri will challenge a panel of medical experts and comedians to each make a case for what they think is 'the best medicine', and each guest will champion an invention, a technique, a pill, potion or person. Whether it's world-changing science, an obscure invention or an unsung hero, it's always something worth celebrating."

Discussions in the first series included such topics as virtual reality injections, a revolutionary pill on a string that detects throat cancer, drumming rats and showmanship in medieval surgery.

Kiri Pritchard-McLean revealed the news of the recommission in a video on social media, saying of the news "I'm so excited, I'm so pleased, so proud; it's such an amazing show to host".

Best Medicine, which is produced by Ben Worsfield via production company Large Time, has been voted into the final six shortlist in the Comedy.co.uk Awards 2023, in the Best Radio Panel Show category. Voting for the winner closes on Sunday 21st January.

Pritchard-McLean thanked listeners in the video, saying "thank you so much for supporting the show. It's you guys saying nice things about it and sharing it around the place and recommending it to people that has made such a big difference, so thank you."
