Alfie Moore's Radio 4 policing comedy It's A Fair Cop is returning for an eighth series next year, after the copper-turned-stand-up delivers his first festive special this Christmas Day.

"I'm thrilled that BBC Radio 4 have commissioned Series 8 of It's A Fair Cop" Moore told British Comedy Guide. "It's a challenging time for policing and a great opportunity to open up dialogue and debate about ever-changing legislation, policies and procedures. I'm very much looking forward to providing insights from the other side of the thin blue line whilst utilising the most powerful bit of policing kit of all - humour."

Returning on April Fool's Day in 2024, the eighth series follows a Christmas special, recorded earlier this month at BBC Radio Theatre in London. Moore, an ex-officer in the Humberside Police Force, described himself as "very excited" to be making the special, while recognising the ongoing work of his ex-colleagues.

"These shows are always a delight to make and it's a genuine privilege to be invited into people's homes at Christmas" he said. "It's also nice to acknowledge the key workers who'll be sacrificing time with their families to be out there helping to keep us safe."

Running for 34 episodes since it began in 2014, It's A Fair Cop intersperses Moore's tales from more than 20 years on the beat with him asking the audience how they might react in particular situations.

As the special reflects, crime rates rise during the festive period, particularly for drink-related disorder and violence, with a marked increase in burglaries in the two weeks either side of Christmas Day.

Recalling an emotional 10-hour night shift that Moore worked out of Scunthorpe Police Station one Christmas Eve, the 30-minute episode features a drunken Mary and Joseph in a domestic altercation, a burgled family and a police dog in a Christmas outfit.

The It's A Fair Cop Christmas Special is part of a wider announcement of Radio 4 festive content announced today, which also includes a Troy Hawke stand-up special and the final new episodes of Bob Servant.

Moore is currently touring his A Face For Radio live show until 15th June, continuing with a date at The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury on Wednesday.
