Radio Wales to broadcast satirical panel show 'What Just Happened?'
- Robin Morgan and Kiri Pritchard-McLean will front BBC Radio Wales series What Just Happened?
- The four new episodes of the satirical panel show format, which will be broadcast in July, follow on from the 2021 pilot
- The commission comes "at a time when we need topical comedy and satire more than ever"
BBC Radio Wales has ordered a series of What Just Happened?, the satirical panel show format which was piloted in December 2021.
The four-part series will be broadcast on the station and BBC Sounds across July, from Thursday 6th.
The programme will be hosted by Robin Morgan with Kiri Pritchard-McLean.
The BBC says: "The programme offers a Welsh slant on the week's news and Robin and Kiri will be joined by a panel of established and emerging contributors, who will skewer and satirise the week's news. Alongside big names, the show will spotlight new Welsh comics both on air and in the writers' room, with the pilot episode featuring Anna Thomas, who went on to win the BBC New Comedy Award, and Tadiwa Mahlunge."
Robin Morgan says: "I'm thrilled to be hosting What Just Happened? for the superstars at BBC Radio Wales, at a time when we need topical comedy and satire more than ever. We've got big plans for this show, and there's a cheeseboard for Mark Drakeford if he ever wants to appear on the panel. I've written on topical shows for a decade, and couldn't be prouder to be giving a platform for the next generation of brilliant Welsh comedy writers."
Kiri Pritchard-McLean adds: "I'm so excited to be a part of What Just Happened?, a show brimming with Welsh talent, live show recordings and a way for me to digest the news that's healthier than doomscrolling Twitter - I can't wait!"
Head of Radio Wales Carolyn Hitt notes: "Comedy is a hugely important part of how we reflect Wales back to our audiences on BBC Radio Wales - it can be as effective as our journalism in providing scrutiny and unpicking how Wales works. We can use comedy to make serious points.
"I'm really excited about What Just Happened? Robin and Kiri are the perfect talents to give us comedy that punches up - providing laser-sharp satire on Welsh politics and public life and making mischief with Welsh popular culture, news and sport."
Henry Widdicombe, who co-created the show with Morgan and is producing it via his company Little Wander, comments: "As a company dedicated to supporting and building Welsh talent, in Wales, Little Wander couldn't be prouder of the opportunities that a show such as What Just Happened? will bring to the Welsh comedy landscape."
