The Skewer has won at ARIAS 2022, the Radio Academy's awards.
The Radio 4 format picked up the Gold prize in the Comedy Award category at last night's ceremony (3rd May).
Devised by Jon Holmes, the show - which is currently airing its sixth series on Wednesday nights at 11:15pm - mixes up audio footage to satirise the news.
The format has an 'open door' policy for material and thus has been giving a number of up-and-coming writers their first broadcast credits.
Reacting on Twitter to the win, Holmes posted just one word: "Crikey".
The other nominees in the Comedy Award category were podcast Cold Case Crime Cuts, Audible series Jamali Maddix: Spooky Sh*t, Radio 4 series Rhys James: Rhysearch, Absolute Radio's Rockanory and stand-up format Rosie Jones: Box Ticker Too.
Cold Case Crime Cuts which, like The Skewer, is made by Jon Holmes's production company, Unusual Productions, picked up the Silver award. Bronze went to Rosie Jones.
The ceremony, which took place at London's Adelphi Theatre and was hosted by Rylan, and saw winners announced in 25 categories. Guests gave Adele Roberts a standing ovation as she won the Radio Times Moment of the Year for her return to radio following her cancer diagnosis. The Radio 1 DJ was in tears as she collected the award, and thanked fellow presenter Yasmin Evans for encouraging her to go to the doctors when she didn't think she needed to.
